The Academy of Scientific Astrology is based on astronomic principles confirming to the IAU convention. The calculations are performed on the HORIZONS integrator by Jon Giorgini of NASA JPL, Pasadena CA.
Subject headings: solar system – Academic Zodiac, astrology – precession of the ascendant, meridian constellations

1. INTRODUCTION

Over the years the Academic Zodiac has been published, tested and tried in a variety of situations ranging from Eros landing to the discovery of the WMAP cold spot. It is our intent and duty to give credit while referring to the NASA JPL staff that guided our first steps into the fascinating world that we call universe. Our mission was not only to delineate all the dwarf planets, centaur objects and classes of special objects, but also study the universal horoscope much as the ancients would. Surprisingly, we have everything that is needed for such a study; in a word, we have NASA.

2. OBSERVATIONS

The ancients observed the skies. This matter of fact marks the difference between the ancient and modern. The visionary astronomers saw the exact positions of the stars according to precession as well as other energetic changes in the finer strata. Anyone observing the sky will determine the rising constellations. These change according to epoch and precession. The ascendant set is by no means static. Observation discloses the true nature of the skies: they rotate. As the skies rotate, the set of ascendants is changing. As the set of ascendants is changing, so does the pulse of this little planet, e.g. today we have a small set of ascendants, only 16, accounting for the uniform state of planetary culture.

3. DATA REDUCTION

The Academic Zodiac has been studied and published as based on scientific facts. The introductory study includes the precession of the ascendant, as well a special treatise on the meridian constellations.
The definition under 1) implies that there is a difference between eastern and meridian constellations, much as the local zodiac stands apart as separate system.
The same rules do not apply to ascendants and zodiacal constellations, much as a separate study of the meridian constellations is required in an astrologer.
The astrologer operating within the real sky environment learns to reduce the data to the essential: ascendant, Moon, star gates, WMAP cold spot and major conjunctions.
Data can be extracted by planetocentric analysis, e.g. In a Juno-centric marriage horoscope, Venus conjunct Bellatrix conveys data that were not obtainable by geocentric analysis.
4. MODEL

The Academic Zodiac spawns further models.

The Academic Zodiac with its standard 22 IAU constellations stands apart fro the set of eastern ascendants, whose number is 16.
The Cartesian house system regulates the uniform of stellar information in a given situation, whether during a seaquake (topocentric depression, negative altitude), on spacecraft or alien solar system. The board mainframe already incorporates such a system.
Scanning the local zodiac for travel purpose is executed by a basic program with preprogrammed zodiacs as well as input and correction capabilities. Zodiacs will be determined on the flight.

5. DISCUSSION

It would be beyond our expectations to find a primitive society handling the intricacies of precession and the zodiac. Slaves and primitives are expected to do as they are told, think as it is expected from their primitive culture, and most of all think big of their culture and leaders. The culture one is born into is the greatest of all times, for all practical purposes. One will not question since the experts do their job and one is not to interfere. It is clear that the Indian, Hebrew and Chinese civilizations are in turn the greatest of all. With due respect towards your civilization, mine is slightly greater than yours is.

6. SUMMARY

Neglect and occult reason have reduced the zodiac to speculative game for the masses. Asinine presumptions have Spica Virginis in Libra and soon Scorpius.
People born with Sun in Virgo are already being told that they are “Scorpio”. Soon the error will expand towards 90 degrees without anyone noticing.
Ascendant Pisces is being interpreted as Capricorn, even when Capricornus can not rise at due east for the epoch.
The Sun is in Libra for Sai Baba’s birthday, November 23rd.
Scores of people believe in the most improbable ascendants and zodiacal positions, such as Aries ascending or even “Pluto in Aries”. Apart from being ridiculous, such presumptions are dangerous in many ways. Pluto never enters Aries or Pisces, much as Eris will never enter Taurus at all. The people who handled the zodiac and ascendant set during the years were poorly educated to say the least. There may be even belief in 12 or 13 signs in the academic world, such is the pressure of the unconscious media upon modern daily mind.

Since nobody else is talking, thought I might rattle this off. I'm a big fan of Gary Larson's old Far Side comic strip (panel if you want to get technical), but I've not really looked at the newspaper in years... I realized just the other day he retired it in '95 while I was in the process of researching comic strip syndication. Thing is, I've been a computer programmer since '98 and frankly, I'm sick of the people who work in that industry and honestly much happier doing other things like illustrating. So I've started illustrating some comic strips to build up a portfolio to interest the syndication companies. Some of them are on my tribe photos although there are a lot more on my cafe press site because I'm trying to shift my income away from programming, so I'm focusing on the immediate income potential. Basically I'm trying to quit programming and up to this point I'm finding it's about as difficult as quitting smoking. :) So have a look at my tribe photos or have a look at my cafe press store, let me know how I stack up to Larson and if you like any of it, spread it around! :)
Yeah, yeah, I know it's considered rude to post "adverts" in forums, and I don't care. :) Rubbing against the grain is what this tribe is supposed to be for anyway. :)

Iconoclasm to me, is about a kind of idealism. You "break" the image because the image itself only represents an idea--it is not the idea itself. You recognize and call attention to all of the artificial constructs in life (in written, spoken, and visual language) in order to lay a common ground that has a humanistic spirit (oxymoron?) at its core.

As much as iconoclasm today has strong anti-religious sentiments, Iconoclasm is of Christian origins, which is where this connection with idealism started. You break the images or symbols of god because it is not god. It was a movement against idolotry with roots in Islam (a modern day example of iconoclasm is the Taliban's much-publicized destruction of ancient Buddhist statues in Afghanistan).

Yup. That's our history. Iconoclasts started as religious nuts. Fanatics directed by Roman Emperors, no less! Enforcers of the dominant paradigm, they were!

While the religious dogma has been washed away, iconoclasm today still seems to have a resolute idealism at its core. If you destroy all images because they lie, then you believe in some truth or reality beyond the image which cannot be conveyed by it.

But images, these illusions, have power. In this way, the iconolaters (religious figures, advertisers, marketers, politicians) can successfully manipulate illusions and wield them with great effectiveness. The ones who control the illusion always will prevail.

But the iconoclast does not want to control the illusion, even though, as even we ourselves know, our iconoclasm is simply another mask, another form of illusion. Or is it to be called truth? But calling it so would hasten our departure from iconoclasm.

So how does an iconoclast subvert the dominant paradigm without falling prey to losing the very ideals which they hold most dear? And is an iconoclast a more zealous advocate of idealism than the iconolaters and their fervent worshipping of their idols?

It seems to me that you can only go two ways with it: nihilism or idealism. Probably a trap of binary thinking on my part.

So, iconoclasts, where does our path lead? or does such a path exist for us?

just some thoughts...

A polymath (also known as a polyhistor) is a person who excels in multiple fields, particularly in both arts and sciences. The most common term for this is Renaissance man. Other terms for this are Homo universalis and Uomo Universale which in Latin and Italian respectively is translated as "Universal Man". Many notable polymaths lived during the European Renaissance period, and a rounded approach to education was typical of the ideals of the humanists of the time. A gentleman or courtier of that era was expected to speak several languages, play a musical instrument, write poetry and so on, thus fulfilling the Renaissance ideal. During the Renaissance, Baldassare Castiglione, in his The Book of the Courtier, wrote a guide to being a polymath. On the other hand "polymath" may be applied more strictly, taking Leonardo da Vinci or Goethe as prime examples, and requiring a universality of approach. A polymath may not necessarily be classed as a genius, which is a more debatable classification; and certainly a genius may not display the breadth to qualify as a polymath. Albert Einstein is a prime example of a genius who was not a polymath.

"6.54 My propositions are elucidatory in this way: he who understands me finally recognizes them as senseless, when he has climbed out through them, on them, over them. (He must so to speak throw away the ladder, after he has climbed up on it.)
He must surmount these propositions; then he sees the world rightly.

The question becomes, what to do about it? Some options:

1. actively promote death and destruction
2. ditto, except in the inner world
3. retreat from society
4. make beautiful/ugly things
5. find solace in drugs/sex/addiction du jour
6. become an enlightened being (yah right)
7. join a cult, such as burning man or heaven's gate
8. watch TV and sink into mediocrity
9. commit suicide
10. kiss a rubber ducky
